Mason Jar Breakfast Recipes

We are nearing the end of January, and are well on our way to a healthier new year. We know that exercise and healthy eating play a big part in reaching goals you may have set for 2015.  If you are struggling with how to make the time to fit in exercise and making healthy meals into your busy work and family schedule then these recipes will be a perfect fit for you! Use these make ahead meals that are not only easy but convenient too. Place all ingredients in a major jar and your meal is set!  

Mason Jar Overnight Oats

These recipes are quick, no-cook, and perfect on-the-go meals. Using oats and low fat Greek yogurt, these breakfast jars are full of protein, calcium, fiber and other nutritents to start your day off right.

Overnight Blueberry Maple Oats

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup uncooked old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup skim/soy/almond milk
  • 1/4 cup low-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons dried chia seeds (optional)
  •  2 teaspoons maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup blueberries (or enough to fill jar)

 

Directions

  1. In a half pint (1 cup) jar, add oats, milk, yogurt, chia seeds, and maple syrup.
  2. Put lid on jar and shake until well combined.
  3. Remove lid, add blueberries and stir until mixed throughout.
  4. Return lid to jar and refrigerate overnight or up to 2 days. Eat chilled.

 

Overnight Banana Peanut Butter Oats

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup uncooked old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup skim/soy/almond milk
  • 1/4 cup low-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons dried chia seed (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon honey, optional (or any preferred sweetener)
  • 1/2 a small banana, diced

 

Directions

  1. In a half pint (1 cup) jar, add oats, milk, yogurt, chia seeds, peanut butter, and honey.
  2. Put lid on jar and shake until well combined.
  3. Remove lid, add bananas and stir until mixed throughout.
  4. Return lid to jar and refrigerate overnight or up to 2 days. Eat chilled.
